The New York Islanders announced today that they have assigned left wing Shawn Bates to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for a conditioning stint. The 32-year-old has not seen time with New York since he injured his groin nearly half-way through last season.
Bates will play for the Sound Tigers this Saturday, Nov. 17 when the team travels to Hershey to take on the Bears at the Giant Center.
Bates has not suited up for the Sound Tigers during the five seasons he has been a part of the Islanders' organization. With New York, Bates has compiled 58 goals and 112 assists for 170 points in 328 games played. Bates does however have American Hockey League experience, playing for the Providence Bruins in three of the four years he was in Boston's system. With Providence, Boston's AHL affiliate, Bates recorded 45 goals and 48 assists for 93 points in 98 games.
The Sound Tigers also received center Ben Walter back from the Islanders, who was recalled by New York on Nov. 3. Walter played in the last four games for the Islanders.
