BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have signed defenseman Jeff State to a professional tryout contract. The 6'6" 245-pounder from Buffalo, New York marks his fourth straight season playing in Connecticut by signing with the Sound Tigers. He had two goals, five assists, seven points and 156 penalty minutes in 63 games with the United Hockey League's Danbury Trashers last season and split the previous two years (2002-04) between the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack and the ECHL's Charlotte Checkers. State also played two years (2000-02) at Merrimack College of Hockey East, as well as two seasons in the United States Hockey League with the Dubuque Fighting Saints and the Omaha Lancers.
Aquino, 20, has two assists and six penalty minutes in nine AHL games with the Sound Tigers this season. The 5'9" 190-pounder from Mississauga, Ontario was selected by the Islanders in the seventh round, 210th overall, of this past summer's NHL Entry Draft. He signed with the big club and attended Islanders training camp before joining the Sound Tigers this fall.
