SOUND TIGERS SIGN FREDERIC CLOUTIER Former ECHL ‘Triple Crown’ winner adds to depth in goal
BRIDGEPORT, CT – The American Hockey League’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League’s New York Islanders, have announced the signing of Frederic Cloutier who was the ECHL Rookie of the Year, Goaltender of the Year and Most Valuable Player during his first professional season in 2001-02. Cloutier, 24, signed with the NHL’s Minnesota Wild in November of 2001 and posted a 28-5-3 record, 1.84 goals against average, .945 save percentage and seven shutouts and also assisted on two goals during his landmark rookie season with the ECHL’s Louisiana IceGators. The 1.84 goals against average stood as a single-season ECHL record until last year, the seven shutouts tie him for the most in a single ECHL campaign and the .945 save percentage is still that league’s single-season high mark. The 6’0’’ 185-pounder from Saint-Honore, Quebec split the next two seasons (2002-04) between Louisiana and the Houston Aeros, Minnesota’s AHL affiliate, and is 5-5-4 in 18 career AHL games. Cloutier tied for the ECHL’s most wins last season while posting a 32-12-3 record, 2.37 goals against average, .928 save percentage and five shutouts in 48 appearances for the Pensacola Ice Pilots. He has been named an ECHL All-Star twice and also played three seasons (1998-2001) in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and Shawinigan Cataractes.
