BRIDGEPORT, CT – The American Hockey League’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the top affiliate of the National Hockey League’s New York Islanders, have announced the signing of left wing David Masse.
Masse, 22, will be a third-year pro in 2005-06 and should be a familiar name to Sound Tigers fans having played parts of the past two seasons, 2003-05, with the East Division rival Hershey Bears. The 6’1’’ 191-pounder from Montreal posted 12 goals, eight assists, 20 points and 23 penalty minutes in 46 games with Hershey along with eight goals, 11 assists, 19 points and 31 penalty minutes in 25 games with the ECHL’s Reading Royals last season. He also had a goal, an assist, two points and 12 penalty minutes in seven playoff games with Reading last spring. Two years ago, Masse was an ECHL All-Star, the Royals’ Rookie of the Year and tied for the team’s postseason scoring lead with six goals and 14 points in 14 contests. He also won a Fan Favorite Award while scoring 50 goals for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Quebec Remparts in 2002-03. Masse played four seasons, 1999-2003, of major-junior hockey in the QMJHL with Quebec and the Victoriaville Tigres.
The Sound Tigers will celebrate their fifth anniversary in Bridgeport as the top affiliate of the Islanders in 2005-06. They will open the regular season with the first of four straight road games when they visit the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Wednesday, October 5th. Their first home games at Bridgeport’s Arena at Harbor Yard will be Saturday and Sunday, October 22nd and 23rd when they host the Portland Pirates and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
