On Friday, an arbitrator awarded New York Islanders winger Trent Hunter $1,550,000 for the 2007-08 season.
Hunter, 27, scored 20 goals and added 15 assists last season with the Islanders, while ranking second on the team with 246 hits.
Hunter was seeking $1.9-million in arbitration. He earned $1-million last season and the Islanders, who have plenty of room under the salary cap, are expected to accept the ruling. They have 48 hours to accept the arbitrator's decision, or else Hunter would become an unrestricted free agent.

The New York Islanders have accepted the one-year arbitration ruling awarded to right wing Trent Hunter and have signed him to a one-year contract. Last season, Hunter appeared in 77 games with the Islanders and scored 20 goals with 15 assists for 35 points.
"Letting Trent go was never a consideration for us," said Islanders general manager Garth Snow. "He's an important piece to our team; that was never up for debate. We're glad he'll be in an Islanders uniform in September."
Last season, the 27-year-old Hunter ranked fifth in the NHL in hits with 246 while only accumulating 20 penalty minutes. In four NHL seasons, Hunter has played in 244 games while scoring 61 goals with 64 assists for 125 points and 76 penalty minutes. He also has a career plus-24 plus/minus rating.
Hunter was a finalist for the Calder Trophy in 2003-04 as the NHL's rookie of the year. That season he scored 25 goals with 26 assists for 51 points and co-led the Islanders in scoring. Hunter was also named to the NHL All-Rookie Team that season.
In 2006-07, Hunter was named the recipient of the Bobby Nystrom Award, which is given annually to the Islander who best exemplifies leadership, hustle and dedication.

Sounds like a fair amount. I REALLY hope they sign him long term.

Me two. He's one of the tools we need to rebuild this team.
