Sports Illustrated said Ryan Smyth might be heading back to the northwest division.. This time as a Flame.. Supposedly Sutter has a good relationship with Smyth's agent, and Ryan Smyth is highly coveted by Darryl Sutter.

I really hope he doesn't. He could be a great leader and goal scorer for the team. He can do what Mark Parrish used to do. He is great asset to the team.

I wouldn't be surprised. I have a feeling he'll sign with a Canadian team next year.

If the Islanders don't atleast make a huge effort to keep Smyth, Garth and Co. are going to look like quite the idiots giving up what they did to get him. Also if there is no way Smyth would even consider staying on the island that should have been explored before the trade went through. So you could chalk this all up to Snow's inexperience on the management level. What is it with this team and it's GMs ? Well thats a topic for another discussion altogether. I hope we are all pleasantly surprised and the Islanders can sign Smyth.
