Allan Rourke, who played in 25 games for the Carolina Hurricanes in 2003-04 as a rookie, has signed a contract with the Islanders. The 6-2, 215-pound Rourke has appeared in 296 career AHL games since the 2000-01 season. In 2004-05 he played for Carolina's AHL affiliate in Lowell, where he had seven goals, 12 assists and a +11 plus/minus rating. He split the previous season with Lowell and Carolina, going 1-2-3 with a +4 in his 25 games as a rookie in the NHL with the Hurricanes. The 25-year old Rourke was originally selected by Toronto in the sixth round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. After spending three years in the Maple Leafs' organization, Rourke was traded to Carolina for Harold Druken in March of 2003. Rourke played junior hockey with Kitchener of the OHL. In 206 games, the left-shooting defenseman amassed 48 goals and 89 assists for 137 points. In his last year with the club in 1999-00, Rourke was named to the OHL Second All-Star team as a result of his 31 goals from the blueline. www.newyorkislanders.com/pressbox/archive.asp?id=388
