To make room on the roster for the 24-year-old Thompson, the team has reassigned defenseman Brett Skinner to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League. Thompson has spent the last three seasons with the Providence Bruins of the AHL where he was coached by Islanders Head Coach Scott Gordon. Thompson has played in four NHL games, all with the Bruins and all in the 2006-07 season. In 216 career AHL games—all with Providence—Thompson has scored 35 goals with 45 assists for 80 points. Originally drafted by Boston in the sixth round (183rd overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Thompson played his junior hockey with Seattle of the Western Hockey League from 2001-02 to 2004-05. In 253 games with Seattle, Thompson scored 55 goals and 88 assists for 143 points. Skinner was signed as a free agent by the Islanders this past summer.
