(September 6) The National Hockey League’s New York Islanders, affiliate of the American Hockey League’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, have re-signed goaltender Wade Dubielewicz. Dubielewicz, 26, has played both seasons (2003-05) of his professional career with the Sound Tigers and was an AHL All-Star and the league’s Rookie of the Year in 2003-04. The 5’10’’ 185-pounder from Kerrobert, Saskatchewan set league records with a 1.38 goals against average and .946 save percentage, tied the league mark for freshman netminders with nine shutouts and shared the Holmes Award with Dieter Kochan for the lowest team goals against average while posting a 20-8-5 record in 33 AHL games in 2003-04. Dubielewicz also went 1-0-1, including 40 shutout minutes in a surprise relief appearance for the Islanders to win his NHL debut, that year. He is 38-31-6 with a franchise-record ten shutouts in 76 career appearances for the Sound Tigers. Prior to signing with the Islanders as a free agent in May of 2003, Dubielewicz posted a 44-26-6 record and eight shutouts in 85 games during four seasons (1999-2003) with the University of Denver of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. www.soundtigers.com/news/release_090605a.htm
